Water losses from the distribution system of Ekaterinburg are estimated at 30% and the local water utility uses around 1100km of distribution pipeline to supply it’s 1.4 million inhabitants. Domestic water consumption is 200 litres per capita per day. Approximately 50-60% of the pipeline needs to be replaced or renovated in order to reduce water loss and ensure a safe water supply.
A wide range of Viking Johnson products, including large diameter couplings, flange adaptors, dismantling joints and stepped couplings, have been chosen to reinforce, realign and join the existing and new pipeline. To rehabilitate the current cast iron and steel pipes, a sleeve is inserted and inflated with hot steam. This melts the sleeve and thus coats the inside of the pipe forming a jointless, leak-free lining system.
