HITCHIN-BASED VIKING JOHNSON DONATES £24,000 TO LOCAL CHARITIES

February 11, 2013

Hitchin-based Viking Johnson (www.vikingjohnson.com) a leading brand of Crane Building Services & Utilities has donated £24,000 to four local charities including Hertfordshire’s branch of The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS) who will use the money to aid their ‘Save a Baby’s Life’ campaign.

As part Crane Co.’s annual charitable giving programme*, each year employees at Crane BS&U are invited to nominate local charities that are close to their hearts, particularly focusing on smaller charities that provide direct services to the needy and disadvantaged in the local area.

This year, The RLSS was nominated by an employee who teaches swimming and lifesaving at Welwyn Garden Swimming Club, is a member of the Life Saving Committee and is also a Branch Child Protection Officer.

The RLSS was formed in 1891 and is Britain’s leading drowning prevention and water safety organisation. In the UK, the Society is represented by 52 Branches with the

Hertfordshire Branch being formed in 1963. RLSS UK aims to teach everyone basic skills that could help save a life, should the occasion arise – to become a lifesaver rather than a bystander.

Rod Reeves, President, Hertfordshire Branch and an RLSS UK National Trainer Assessor said: “I am looking forward to using the donation to increase the number of our ‘Save a Baby’s Life’ trainers as well as purchasing the necessary equipment to continue our community engagement in this area.”

The three other Eastern based charities that will benefit from Crane funds are: Shooting Stars at Ipswich Academy (owned by Learning Schools Trust), Somersham Ward Support Group at Ipswich Hospital and Braintree, Halstead & Witham Citizens Advice Bureau.

Hitchin-based Viking Johnson (www.vikingjohnson.com) is a leading manufacturer of high performance engineered components for the international water and gas industries.
